About THE COLD PROCESS

Features of THE COLD PROCESS

  • Handmade in Japan by artisans, taking over 30 days for each piece.

The cold process method is not suitable for mass production. It involves carefully preparing the soap in a domestic workshop by skilled artisans, and then allowing it to mature slowly for over 30 days without heat. This cold process method avoids reliance on unnecessary synthetic additives, resulting in a moisturizing soap rich in glycerin, a natural humectant.

  • Addresses various skin concerns and empowers the skin to nurture itself.

The Cold Process uses generous amounts of the highest-grade oils, herbs, and beauty ingredients. It addresses individual skin concerns such as dullness, aging, and sensitive skin, aiming to enhance the skin's natural barrier function and promote healthy skin that moisturizes itself.

  • The calming scent fills the bathroom and lingers.

The Cold Process incorporates a variety of fragrances, using naturally derived essential oils extracted from flowers, leaves, fruit peels, and tree bark, as well as high-quality fragrance oils. The rich aroma fills your bathroom, so changing the scent to match your mood will make your daily bath time even more enjoyable.

  • Over 30 types available, including those for delicate zones, shampoo, kitchen, and pets.

We offer a gentle soap made only from naturally derived ingredients, with options available for safe use on sensitive areas. We have over 30 varieties for various aspects of daily life, including body and face, scalp care, hair care, baby, pet, and kitchen.

  • We eliminated the weaknesses of soap, focusing on gentleness and ease of use.

No synthetic surfactants, preservatives, antiseptics, or petroleum-derived ingredients are used. This reduces skin irritation, so you can use it with peace of mind. In addition to moisturizing, it also provides excellent cleansing power while being gentle on the skin, and can effectively remove natural makeup. Furthermore, focusing on the properties of water, we researched the optimal blending balance with oils. We are also committed to preventing soap from dissolving and reducing soap scum, which were weaknesses of soap.

  • Consider the environment when creating and after using.

Soap with the characteristic of being highly biodegradable. Even if it is discharged into rivers, it decomposes in the water within about an hour. Furthermore, since The Cold Process does not apply heat during manufacturing, it also contributes to a low-carbon society and does not use plastic bottles, helping to reduce marine waste, which is a global problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

About the product

What is the difference between the cold process and hot process methods?

The cold process method uses only the heat generated by the chemical reaction to slowly mature the product at a low temperature. In contrast, the hot process method applies heat to produce it in a shorter period.

Because the cold process method does not apply heat, it can make the most of nature's blessings without damaging the active ingredients of the raw materials, such as vegetable fats and oils and herbs.

What are the characteristics of cold process soap?

Generous amounts of natural glycerin, a moisturizing ingredient, are dissolved in the soap. After washing, just the right amount of oil remains, leaving your skin feeling moisturized as if you had applied cream.

Additionally, because no heat is applied, natural beauty and moisturizing ingredients such as oils and herbs, as well as fragrances, can be freely incorporated, allowing for the creation of soaps with a wide variety of unique characteristics.

How is the cold process good for the skin?

While soap is fundamentally meant to remove dirt, The Cold Process is regarded as a skincare item that cleanses the skin while also conditioning it. Because this manufacturing method allows for easy incorporation of various ingredients, you can experience a wide range of skincare benefits.

Does it contain anything that’s bad for the skin?

Contains no synthetic surfactants, preservatives, biocides, or petroleum-derived ingredients that may irritate the skin.

A gentle soap made with naturally derived ingredients.

Don't you use any non-plant-based ingredients?

Most of our products are plant-based, but some soaps contain animal-derived ingredients such as honey, horse oil, squalene sourced from sharks (a skin-conditioning ingredient), and placenta extracted from animals (for anti-aging).

Plant-based products are marked with a VEGAN logo on their respective product pages on our website.

Please consult our staff for more details.

Is it okay to wash my face with body soap? And vice versa?

The facial formula has a relatively high moisturizing effect, while the body formula is formulated to prioritize a clean, refreshing wash. Although each is tailored to its intended use, there is no particular problem with using the body formula on your face or the facial formula on your body.

How long does it last? How should I store it?

With one use per day, the following estimates indicate how long each will last:

・Face… approx. 3–4 months
・Hands… approx. 3–4 months
・Body… approx. 2–3 months
・Shampoo… approx. 3–4 months [short hair] / approx. 2–3 months [long hair]
・Conditioner… over 6 months
・Kitchen… approx. 1–2 months

After use, dry thoroughly and store in a place where it will not come into contact with water or hot water, such as in the shower.

Are The Cold Process products good for the environment?

By not using plastic bottles for packaging, we help reduce the volume of plastic waste and address marine litter. Furthermore, because no heat is applied during manufacturing, we also contribute to the advancement of a low-carbon society.
